About Us

We are the Montgomery Area Chapter of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association, a non-profit organization.

Our chapter brings together graduates, former students, and friends of AAMU who live or work in the Montgomery area.

Join Us!

Our Purpose:

  • Our chapter serves as a bridge between AAMU alumni and the University, making sure bonds remain strong long after graduation. We create spaces—through events, newsletters, and networking—for alumni to stay informed, engaged, and proud of their AAMU heritage.

  • One of our top priorities is helping students succeed by easing financial burdens and offering guidance. Through scholarships, career advice, and mentorship programs, we provide students with both resources and encouragement to thrive during their time at AAMU and beyond.

  • We believe in giving back to the Montgomery community that many of us call home. From service projects to outreach events, we use our time, talents, and Bulldog pride to make a lasting, positive impact where it’s needed most.

Our Motto:

The sign reads 'A SERVICE IS SOVEREIGNTY' with a logo featuring the letter 'A' inside a shield on the left side.

“Service is Sovereignty” -

We believe that giving back keeps our legacy strong.

“As alumni, we carry the legacy of AAMU wherever we go. The Montgomery Area Chapter shows that legacy in action—lifting others as we climb and giving back to our beloved university to ensure that doors remain open for tomorrow’s leaders.”

Through History and Time Toward the Future

Alabama A&M University (AAMU) was founded in 1875 by Dr. William Hooper Councill, a visionary leader who believed education was the key to opportunity and progress.

What started as the Huntsville Normal School, training African American teachers, has grown into a world-class university serving thousands of students across many fields of study.

  • AAMU was built to break barriers. At a time when higher education was not available to all, Dr. Councill created a place where African Americans could learn, lead, and achieve. From the start, AAMU has stood for:

    • Access – opening doors for those once denied opportunities.

    • Service – preparing graduates to strengthen their communities.

    • Excellence – pursuing the highest standards in learning and leadership.

  • The Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter carries this legacy into our community. We are graduates, families, and friends of AAMU who share a common goal: keeping the spirit of AAMU alive beyond the campus.

Through scholarships, mentorship, community service, and events, we:

    • Support the next generation of AAMU students.

    • Strengthen alumni bonds through networking and fellowship.

    • Represent the Bulldog spirit with pride in Montgomery and surrounding areas.

Our chapter ensures that the founding mission of education and empowerment continues, right here at home.

  • The future of AAMU — and our chapter — is about building on a strong foundation while adapting to a changing world. Together, we aspire to:

    • Expand scholarship support for Montgomery students who dream of attending AAMU.

    • Create more mentorship opportunities to guide students into successful careers.

    • Host inclusive events that bring alumni, students, and the community together.

    • Keep advancing the AAMU spirit of service, leadership, and excellence.

By honoring our history and embracing innovation, the Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter helps ensure that AAMU’s story continues through history and time toward the future.

“Much of our rich history is not widely known or discussed. For example, Vivian Malone Jones, a pivotal figure in American civil rights history, is often remembered as the first African American to graduate from the University of Alabama in 1965.

Yet few realize that she earned her bachelor’s degree from Alabama A&M University in 1962. That is a powerful testament to the strong foundation this institution provides.”
