Lifting As We Climb

The Montgomery Area Alumni Association of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University award scholarships annually to students who will attend or are currently enrolled at Alabama A&M University.

Applications are currently closed.

 FAQs

  • The Undergraduate Scholarship Program is an entity of the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association that provides funding for academically talented students. The Undergraduate Scholarship Program is offering a scholarship award that is valid for one academic year. The scholarship is available to high school graduates whose county of residence is Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes, or Montgomery and meets the eligibility

    requirements. Students currently receiving full scholarship awards from Alabama A&M University are ineligible for scholarship awards from the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter.

  • The Undergraduate Scholarship, for the selected recipients, will be paid directly to AAMU in the name of the selected awardee.

    Scholarship Amounts:

    $1,200.00 – First Place                                  

    $800.00 – Second Place                

    $500.00 – Third Place                

    Honorable Mention

  • Applicants must meet the following requirements to receive consideration for the Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter Scholarship:

    1. Graduating high school student with 3.0 GPA. Must be a US citizen who lives in either Montgomery, Autauga, Elmore, or Lowndes County, and who has been officially accepted and enrolled at AAMU.

    2. Students currently receiving a FULL ACADEMIC OR ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIP award from AAMU are ineligible for the Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter scholarship awards.

  • Below are documents required to apply for a Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter Scholarship:

    1. A completed scholarship application along with a minimum one-page, single spaced 12 pitch, autobiographical essay. Your essay must convey your career goals and how Alabama A&;M University can help you achieve your goals. Additionally, it should include community service(s) performed and leadership positions held.

    2. Completed official high school transcript in a sealed envelope

    3. Copy of a valid current photo ID or driver’s license

    4. Two letters of recommendations, one from the school principal, counselor, or teacher, and the other from a church, community, or civic leader. Both letters of recommendations must be signed and on letterhead. The deadline for submission is 4:00 PM CST, Monday, June 8, 2026.

    5. All deadlines must be met and any requests for additional information must be timely addressed by the applicant.

    6. To the extent possible, any scholarships awarded under these guidelines are not intended to – and should not – supplant or replace other funds available to a student.

    7. No use of artificial intelligence (AI) (e.g. ChatGPT).

  • By completion of Freshman year, join the Alabama A&M University Pre-Alumni Association. Contact the Director of Alumni Affairs, (256) 372-8351.

    Write a “Thank You” letter to the Alabama A&M University Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter and attend the following year’s send off, if possible.

  • Please refer to the scholarship application procedures to ensure you are eligible and submit the required documentation by 4:00 PM CST, Monday, June 8, 2026. The scholarship application, letters of recommendation, picture ID or driver’s license, and student essay are to be submitted via Alabama A&M University Alumni Association Montgomery Area Alumni Chapter website.

    The student transcript shall be mailed in a sealed envelope or emailed to:
